Résumé

Given the later importance of these Ṣufrite groups as Ibāḍī rivals, the heresiographers had to account for their origins and offer a doctrinal rationale for their existence. It was in this context that Ibn al-Aṣfar and the satellite sects were born (o.c., 96).
